Legendary cinematographer Conrad L Hall took top honours for mob drama Road to Perdition at the 17th Annual American Society of Cinematographers Outstanding Achievement Awards.

Hall’s son, Conrad W Hall, also a cinematographer, accepted the award from Charlie’s Angels actress Lucy Liu on his father’s behalf.

Hall lost a long battle with cancer in January at the age of 76.

“He never really wanted the attention,” Hall Jr said. “He would have given the credit away.”

Meanwhile it was also announced that a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame is to be dedicated to the late Hall on May 1.

Conrad L Hall has also been nominated for a posthumous best cinematography Oscar for his work on Road to Perdition which stars Tom Hanks and Paul Newman.

He has been nominated for Oscars many times and won an Academy Award for 1969’s Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and one for American Beauty in 2000.

His other films include A Civil Action, Tequila Sunrise, Edge of Fury and Marathon Man.
