Robert Downey Jr is in negotiations to star opposite Oscar-winner Halle Berry in new supernatural thriller Gothika.
Directed by Mathieu Kassovitz, production begins in April.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Gothika stars Berry as a criminal psychologist who wakes up to find herself a patient in her own mental institution with no memory of the murder she has apparently committed.
As she struggles to reclaim her sanity, she finds herself the pawn of a vengeful spirit.
Penelope Cruz will play Chloe, a fellow inmate in the asylum, while Downey will play a psychiatrist colleague of Berry’s character.
Downey next stars in The Singing Detective, based on Dennis Potter’s celebrated BBC TV series, which debuted at the Sundance Film Festival last month.
He was nominated for a best actor Oscar for his title role in Chaplin.
