Two Weeks Notice

Directed: Marc Lawrence

Cast: Sandra Bullock, Hugh Grant, Alicia Wit

Cert: 12.

Having had to suffer through their manufactured on-off 'romance' the teaming of Bullock and Grant in this shallow romantic-comedy is a disappointment.

She plays the put-upon employee of a rich and nasty property developer (Grant). She decides she can stand him and her job no longer and hands in her notice, accepted on condition she finds her replacement (Wit). She then decides she misses him; well, you can guess the rest.

It's not all that original, even if the basic idea has some merit. The problem is that for all the pre-release hype Bullock and Grant actually fail to manage to gell as an effective on-screen team.

The weak plot doesn't help them, of course, and in the end we don't believe a word of what we are watching, nor do we care much for the thinly-drawn characters. It is an overly-mannered and cliché-ridden story with no idea of its ultimate destination.
