Cold Feet star James Nesbitt is set to take on Bob The Builder and plough his way into children’s hearts with a new pre-school show Tractor Tom.

He will voice the new ITV1 show along with Linda Green star and former Big Breakfast host Liza Tarbuck.

The series – due to launch this month – follows the adventures of a small but brave tractor and his animal, mechanical and human pals at Springhill Farm.

Creators of the show, which will be aired in the afternoon CiTV slot, will launch a range of toys, books, videos and DVDs on the back of the show which could generate millions.

Tom is joined by Farmer Fi and farmhand Matt, while grumpy combine harvester Wheezy and bumptious truck Rev feature in his tales. A sheepdog, cat, ducks, horses and a cow also share the farm.

He has been created with Toy Story-style computer animation and ITV chiefs have high hopes for the series.

Programme controller for CiTV Janie Grace said: “We are very excited about the potential of Tractor Tom and see him becoming extremely popular with our pre-school viewers.

“Set in a world that’s straight from the imagination and heart of young children, two to five-year-olds will feel instantly familiar with this fun and friendly series.”
