Walken scoops ShowWest award

Academy Award winner Christopher Walken – who most recently starred as Leonardo DiCaprio’s father in Catch Me If You Can – has been named ShoWest 2003 Supporting Actor of the Year.

Walken will accept his award at ShoWest’s closing awards ceremony on March 6 at the annual US theatre owners’ convention in Las Vegas.

Making the announcement, Robert Sunshine, of ShoWest organiser Sunshine Group Worldwide, called Walken “an astonishing talent whose performances encompass a broad range of unforgettable characters“.

Walken won the supporting actor Oscar for his role in 1978’s The Deer Hunter following his career-making role in Woody Allen’s film Annie Hall.

The actor has appeared in more than 50 feature films during his career including The Dead Zone, At Close Range and Pulp Fiction.

His forthcoming films include Envy and Gigli.
