The Batman franchise is set for a revival. Warner Brothers Pictures has recruited Memento director Chris Nolan to make a new film about the Caped Crusader.

Nolan, who last directed the Al Pacino film Insomnia, tells trade paper Variety: “All I can say is that I grew up with Batman, I’ve been fascinated by him and I’m excited to contribute to the lore surrounding the character.

“He is the most credible and realistic of the superheroes, and has the most complex human psychology. His superhero qualities come from within. He’s not a magical character.”

So far four movies featuring Batman have been made while another film called Batman Vs Superman almost went into production with director Wolfgang Petersen before he instead moved to the Greek epic Troy which will star Brad Pitt.

Meanwhile there are also plans for a new Superman film.

Warner Brothers is looking for an actor to play the Man of Steel with Josh Hartnett, Jude Law and Brendan Fraser among those in the running for the role Christopher Reeve made famous.
