Kathy Bates keen to develop directing career
Oscar-winner Kathy Bates – currently starring in About Schmidt – is keen to make her mark in the directing world.
The star – who won an Oscar for Misery – is currently involved in directing episodes of the hit US television show Six Feet Under.
She says there are few decent acting roles around these days and describes good scripts as “few and far between“.
So she’s now searching for the perfect independent project to direct.
Bates explains: “I want to find that project that I really fall in love with so that all the rest of the stuff doesn’t matter and I haven’t found that project yet.
“It’s so hard to characterise it, to me it’s a thing that when you read it you are in the world of it, you want to be in the world of it, you’re drawn in by the characters, it’s a visceral response to what they are going through.
“It’s like you when you sit and watch a movie and something really grabs you - those movies are rare, especially when you do it for a living."
