Blackburn stars as Ozzy on TV special

Veteran DJ Tony Blackburn appears on Celebrity Stars in Their Eyes as Cliff Richard – but he almost walked on as Ozzy Osbourne.

The DJ is one of five celebrities stepping into someone else’s shoes on the show, which is hosted by Davina McCall, next Saturday.

Coronation Street’s Julie Goodyear performs, complete with cigarette, as Marlene Dietrich, while football pundit Ron Atkinson is Frank Sinatra.

Comedienne Rhona Cameron is Judy Garland, while The Bill’s Jane Danson appears as Madonna.

Blackburn, who performs in a red jacket, tie and large tinted glasses, said: “At first we talked about me being Ozzy Osbourne, which I’d have loved. However, his music just wouldn’t have suited my voice.”

Finally, he went for Cliff.

“I think songs such as Summer Holiday are really great tunes but for some reason people have turned against him which is a shame,” he said.
