Bee Gees fans have flocked to buy the band’s Greatest Hits album following the death of star Maurice Gibb, putting the record back in the top ten, it emerged tonight.

The Greatest Hits – The Record went in at number nine in the UK albums chart tonight following Gibb’s death during an operation earlier this month.

The album re-entered the chart at number 30 immediately after his death and has now risen further.

Meanwhile Fame Academy winner David Sneddon was basking in charts glory after holding the top spot in the singles charts for a second week running.

The 24-year-old Glaswegian remained at number one despite competition from Jay-Z’s collaboration with Destiny’s Child star Beyonce Knowles and Jurgen Vries featuring CMC.

The ever-grinning Sneddon went straight to the top last week with Stop Living the Lie, which he wrote when he was 17.

And a second week of topping the chart will help the former busker in his quest to be taken seriously as a songwriter – not as just a game show winner.

Jay-Z came in with a new entry at number two with ’03 Bonnie & Clyde, and it was another new entry at number three – Jurgen Vries featuring CMC with The Opera Song

Busted slipped two places to number four with Year 3000 and another made-for-TV band, Girls Aloud, were also down two at five, with their Christmas hit Sound of the Underground.

Rapper Eminem remained firmly in the number six spot with Lose Yourself.

Amid the re-appearance of the Bee Gees, it was all change at the top of the album chart.

Avril Lavigne and Justin Timberlake swapped places, putting Britney Spears’s ex-boyfriend at the top of the chart with Justified. Lavigne's Let Go slipped down to number two.

Busted was up two places at three with an album of the same name and Pink was down one at four with M!ssundaztood.
