Sofa so good – breakfast television hosts tonight toasted a decade of GMTV with a birthday bash for showbiz stars.
Eamonn Holmes, who fronted the very first edition of the morning show, greeted many of the 600 guests as they arrived a at the event at London’s Madame Tussauds.
He attended the party along with fellow presenters Lorraine Kelly, Penny Smith, John Stapleton and Fiona Phillips.
Phillips – who has been with GMTV for 10 years – said tonight: “It’s one hell of a party.
“We’ve had 10 years at the top to celebrate and thankfully Eamonn and I are off on Friday, so we can have a lie-in and sleep it off.
“I’m really proud to be part of the team and of what we’ve achieved. We’ve seen off our rivals and proved once and for all that we are by far the tastiest breakfast.”
Guests were tonight tucking into a 6ft cake and guzzling on 100 cases of champagne.
GMTV first broadcast on January 1, 1993 and won the licence to broadcast which had previously been held by TV-AM for nearly 10 years.
It is now watched by around five million viewers each day, making it the most popular breakfast show in Europe.
