Artist Tony O'Malley dies aged 89

The internationally renowned Kilkenny artist Tony O'Malley has died at his home in Callan aged 89.

Mr O'Malley was one of the major figures in Irish contemporary art and exhibited his work widely in Ireland, Britain and Europe.

Brian Fallon, an art critic and co-author of a book on Mr O'Malley, said he was "perhaps the most significant artist Ireland has produced since Jack Yeats".
