Judge orders arrest of Whitney's husband

Singer Bobby Brown was ordered to be arrested today after he preferred to appear in concert rather than a Georgia court.

Judge Wayne Purdom said Brown’s performance at the American Music Awards in Los Angeles on the day he was due in court showed he had violated his bail conditions.

Brown, whose wife is singer Whitney Houston, had been ordered not to leave Georgia.

He was required to appear in the Decatur court on six-year-old charges of driving under the influence, no proof of insurance, failure to maintain lane and speeding.

Brown’s lawyer, Xavier Dicks, said he expected his client would turn himself in tomorrow. He said Brown went to Los Angeles because he was under contract to perform at the awards show.

“When you are an entertainer, you’ve got to perform sooner or later,” Dicks said.

Brown was arrested in Atlanta last November on charges of possessing less than an ounce of marijuana, speeding and having no driver’s licence or proof of insurance.

After posting bail in Atlanta, the 33-year-old was transferred to the neighbouring DeKalb County Jail to face the older charges. He was then released on €9,000 bail.
