Julia Robert’s ex Jason Patric is to appear in new movie The Alamo after receiving critical acclaim for his latest role as a tough cop in drama Narc.

Patric will appear alongside Dennis Quaid and Billy Bob Thornton playing frontiersman Jim Bowie in The Alamo, Variety reports.

The film, directed by John Lee Hancock, is set to be released by Touchstone Pictures around Christmas next year.

Shooting begins later this month on a 40-acre replica of the Alamo built by Disney in Austin, Texas.

Patric first came to fame in vampire movie The Lost Boys and was Mel Gibson’s first choice to play William Wallace in the epic Braveheart before Gibson discovered he could only get financing if he doubled up as the film’s star.

The actor, who also appeared in Speed 2: Cruise Control, co-stars with Ray Liotta in forthcoming movie Narc.
