Pop princess Natalie Imbruglia is to wed Daniel Johns, lead singer of the Australian band Silverchair.

The couple are currently on holiday in Australia and have not set a date yet, a spokesman for the EMI record company said.

Imbruglia, 27, shot to fame in Australia and Britain through her part on the soap opera Neighbours.

She later moved to London and in 1998 released her debut album, Left of the Middle, with the hit single, Torn.

Imbruglia was voted best new artist at the MTV Video Music Awards that year. Her second album, White Lilies Island, was released last year.

Imbruglia, who is also the face of cosmetic company Loreal, had previously been romantically linked to Friends star David Schwimmer.

Johns, 23, is the front man for Australian grunge-rock outfit Silverchair, whose hits include The Greatest View. They won best group at the 2002 Australian Record Industry Awards.

Speculation that the couple were to marry began after Johns was seen shopping for a ring last week in a jewellery store in his hometown of Newcastle, 90 miles north of Sydney.
