Hollyoaks star quits to become a nurse

Hollyoaks star Lesley Johnston is quitting the soap to become a nurse.

The former model, who plays sinister Laura Burns in the Channel 4 show, says she wants to train as a midwife.

Lesley recently got engaged to graphic designer Joe Crawford and now wants to fulfil her lifelong ambition in nursing.

She told the Sunday Mirror: "I am giving it all up. It was a very difficult decision because being in Hollyoaks gives you a great lifestyle but nursing is something I have always wanted to do.

"The show has opened so many doors but I knew it wasn't what I planned to spend my life doing."

Fans recently saw her character Laura try to poison best friend Mandy Richardson in a twisted suicide pact.

Her final scenes - where the two women are taken away in an ambulance - have already been shown.
