Gareth to record Comic Relief single
Gareth Gates is to record this year’s official Comic Relief single, it was announced today.
The Pop Idol star will release the charity record in the run-up to Red Nose Day, which is being held on March 14.
He will follow in the footsteps of The Spice Girls, and Westlife, who had a number one to years ago with their cover of Uptown Girl.
Pop Idol winner Will Young has already gone down the charity single route with Don’t Let Me Down, released in aid of Children In Need.
A spokeswoman for the charity confirmed Gareth had been chosen but no decision had been made yet on the choice of song.
It has not yet been decided whether he will record a cover version or release a new track, or whether other stars will join him on the single.
The record is not Gareth’s only involvement with this year’s Comic Relief.
The Bradford-born teenager is also one of the famous faces taking part in Celebrity Driving School.
