Drug charges dropped against West Wing creator

Drug charges against West Wing creator Aaron Sorkin have been dropped in California after he completed a drug rehabilitation programme.

Sorkin, 41, was arrested at a Los Angeles airport in April 2001 after cocaine, marijuana and hallucinogenic mushrooms were found in his bag.

He admitted a misdemeanour and two felony counts and was ordered to complete a treatment programme or risk up to three years and eight months in jail and a €10,000 fine.

His lawyer Steve Sitkoff said Sorkin had continued work on his award-winning White House drama while receiving outpatient treatment.

“Here’s how he said it: He can stand straight in his life now ... for the first time in a long time, he feels real good about himself,” he said. “He’s trying to win another Emmy for his show.”

Sorkin was not present for the brief court hearing in Burbank.
