Will Smith to star in sci-fi thriller

Men In Black star Will Smith is set to appear in a new 20th Century Fox movie I, Robot.

The sci-fi film is a big-screen adaptation of Isaac Asimov’s 1940s science fiction book series and will be directed by Alex Proyas.

The movie is a futuristic thriller in which a detective (Smith) investigates a crime that might have been committed by a robot. Production is due to begin in the spring.

“It’s an indelible sci-fi classic that can be forged into something that is a sci-fi epic,” Twentieth Century Fox’s Hutch Parker tells The Hollywood Reporter.

“It’s not often that you find a classic that has not been done before, pair it with a dynamic, edgy film-maker and then cap it off with the addition of a superstar who is also an actor who can truly do it all.”

Smith, who was nominated for an Oscar last year for his role in Ali, also made the sci-fi movie Independence Day for Fox.
