Actress Winona Ryder returns to court tomorrow to be sentenced for shoplifting.

Actress Winona Ryder returns to court tomorrow to be sentenced for shoplifting.

Prosecutors are not seeking to throw her in jail but want the 31-year-old star to do community service, get drug counselling and pay around €27,000 in fines and compensation for stealing from a posh Saks Fifth Avenue store.

In a legal memo filed in advance of the sentencing, LA deputy district attorney Ann Rundle also revealed that Ryder possessed eight different painkilling prescription drugs when she was arrested at the Beverly Hills department store last year.

The presence of drugs was raised to support her recommendation that Ryder receive drug and psychiatric counselling.

The Oscar-nominated actress was convicted of grand theft and vandalism last month for shoplifting around €6,200 worth of designer merchandise from Saks.

According to Rundle’s memo, police were able to confirm Ryder had prescriptions for seven of the drugs.

A drug charge against Ryder was dismissed when a doctor later confirmed he prescribed the eighth drug.
