Drummer's fall delays the Doors tour

The Doors have been forced to postpone their revival tour after stand-in drummer Stewart Copeland broke his arm falling off a bicycle.

Copeland, formerly of The Police, was injured in an accident near his Los Angeles home last week.

He is expected to be fit to join The Doors’ original keyboardist Ray Manzarek and guitarist Robby Krieger for the rescheduled opening date in Las Vegas on January 19.

Ian Astbury, ex-singer for The Cult, takes the place of Jim Morrison on the tour which had been due to start on Sunday.

Copeland is filling in for original drummer John Densmore, who suffers from a severe hearing problem.

It is the first time The Doors have gone on the road since Morrison’s death in 1971.

They will play dates in the US during the spring before heading to Europe. They also plan to write material for a new album during the tour.

Krieger said of the revival: “We decided the time was right for this. Thirty years after our last gig was long enough to wait.”
