Daniel's back at the top

Daniel Bedingfield’s new single If You’re Not The One tonight went straight to the top of the UK singles charts.

It is the second number one for the previously unknown singer who shot to fame last year after his underground club anthem I Gotta Get Thru This topped the charts.

Bedingfield recorded that song in the bedroom of his terraced home in Lewisham, south east London, with a computer and microphone costing £1,000 (€1,565).

Bedingfield's new single knocked Christina Aguilera’s Dirrty off the top spot, which it had occupied for two weeks.

Aguilera’s song slipped to number three after pop trio Atomic Kitten entered the charts at number two with Last Goodbye.

And EMI’s £80 million investment in Robbie Williams continued to pay off as Escapology spent a second week at the top of the UK albums chart.

Williams’ fifth album went straight to number one last week, knocking Westlife’s greatest hits compilation Unbreakable from the top spot.

One Love, by Blue, rose a place to number two in the album chart, while the highest new entry was Lionel Richie’s Encore.

Elsewhere in the album chart, Jennifer Lopez’s This Is Me Then entered the charts at number 14 and Gareth Gates slipped to number 20, five places below his Pop Idol rival Will Young.
