The law's an ass.

In Manhattan, two men hurrying to their own fates meet in a minor fender-bender, the one (Affleck) is a lawyer, hurrying to file papers which will make his firm a lot of money, the other (Jackson) is a recovering alcoholic, hurrying to court to fight for custody of his children.

This most minor of accidents throws the two men into a war of increasing violence, of unreasonable anger and misunderstanding. It is a powerful film on this level, helped by the playing of Affleck and the always-impressive Jackson.

Michell directed Notting Hill, that most English of comedies, and he has here managed to capture the angry heart of America, where a mere sorry is not enough - it has to be all-out war!
