Welcome to this year's Disney animation feature.

And we have a welcome return to the classic animation of the studio after the computer characters of the likes of Toy Story and A Bug's Life. And it makes for another funny charmer for the kiddies.

The plot is somewhat complex in that it involves the creation of a new lifeform on a faraway planet (which goes wrong), the escape to Earth of the creature, the chase of the creature by a couple of scientists, the discovery of the creature by a lonely little girl.

But it's never less than inventive and colourful and often quite wonderfully off-centre, so much so that adults won't squirm too much while the youngsters wallow in it.

Sneer all you like at the work of Disney, more often than not they can hit the target with terrific movies.
