Yoko presents peace prize to mark Lennon's birthday

Commemorating John Lennon’s birthday and his commitment to peace, the murdered ex-Beatle’s widow Yoko Ono invoked his famous song, Give Peace A Chance, to initiate a new peace prize.

Before a crowd of 300 United Nations ambassadors, government officials and artists in New York, she presented $50,000 (€50,569) cheques to the first winners, Palestinian artist Khalil Rabah and Israeli artist Zvi Goldstein, and thanked them “for being so creative and inspirational despite the intense political situation we all live in”.
