Andrea Corr is to play her first leading film role in The Great Ceili War, a musical comedy.

The movie, set against the background of events at an Irish musical festival, will see Corr play Anne, a folk violinist who meets the father who abandoned her when she was a child.

Oscar-winning actor Jim Broadbent and Irish actors Colm Meaney and Patrick Bergin will co-star in the film to be directed by Hamburger Hill director John Irvin reports www.billboard.com.

It will be filmed in Ireland and the Isle of Man.

Corr previously appeared in a small role in Alan Parker's movies The Commitments in 1991 and Evita in 1996 when she played Juan Peron's mistress.
