Pavarotti to become a father

Luciano Pavarotti’s girlfriend, who is half the 66-year-old Italian tenor’s age, is expecting twins.

His spokeswoman, Renata Meroni, said Nicoletta Mantovani is four months pregnant and the couple do not yet know the sex of the babies.

Pavarotti has three grown daughters by his former wife, Adua. The twins will be Mantovani’s first children.

Meroni was asked if Pavarotti, now on tour in the United States, and Mantovani planned to marry.

She replied that when Pavarotti was asked about his marriage plans he quipped:“We always talked about getting married to have kids, and now it looks like it isn’t really necessary.”
