Viewers pick Kelly as American Idol

American Idol – the US version of Pop Idol– reached its climax today as a 20-year-old cocktail waitress from Texas walked away with the top prize.

An emotional Kelly Clarkson was crowned American Idol at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood, home to the Oscars ceremony.
