I adore British men, says change of heart Paltrow

Hollywood actress Gwyneth Paltrow has made a dramatic U-turn over her criticism of British men, claiming it was all just a “misunderstanding”.

The American beauty said she “adores” British men and Britain and wanted to set the record straight over comments that sparked outrage across the country.

Paltrow, star of Shakespeare In Love, was accused of laying in to Brits during an interview with Now magazine last month, implying they were useless at dating.

She was quoted in the magazine as saying: “If someone asks you out, they’re really going out on a limb, whereas in America it happens all the time.

“It’s no big deal and no weight should be attached to it. It’s only dinner, for God’s sake.”

But speaking at a film festival in Deauville, France, last night, where she is promoting her film Possession, she said her remarks were misunderstood.

She said she was simply talking about the “sociological difference” between dating in Britain and the US.

“I happen to adore British men and I adore Britain,” she added.

Paltrow’s earlier comments had also been criticised by fellow actress Heather Graham who said:

“I’ve had a few English boyfriends and they were aggressive enough to ask me out.”
