Bollywood star to greet fans
Bollywood megastar Shah Rukh Khan was today receiving the red carpet treatment as he spoke to fans at a global film event.
Khan, 36, who has starred in 47 films, was due to talk at the Edinburgh International Film Festival (EIFF) about the Indian film industry and his opinion of the new pretenders to his crown.
The award-winning actor from Mumbai, who is dubbed the King of Bollywood, was addressing an audience of 500 fans at the UGC cinema in the Scottish capital.
He was also discussing his latest film, Devdas, which has been released in Britain and is the most expensive Bollywood film ever made.
Three of his films - Asoka, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jaayenge and Kabhi Kaushi Kabhi Gham - are being screened during the festival, which finishes tomorrow.
Known as “the Indian Tom Cruise”, one of Khan’s biggest hit movies, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, was shot in Scotland in 1999 at Loch Lomond, Glencoe and Tantallon Castle.
When the film was released it became the highest grossing Bollywood film and the first to make it on to the UK International top 10.
Festival chiefs restricted ticket sales for the rare public appearance by the actor after a suspected tout tried to buy all 200 remaining £10 seats for the event in Fountainbridge.
