Oasis and Manics to record tracks for War Child LP

Oasis, Stereophonics and the Manic Street Preachers are recording tracks for a special War Child charity LP.

1 Love will contain covers of artists' favourite number one hits.

It will be released in October to coincide with NME's 50th birthday and the anniversary of the world's first singles chart - launched in 1952.

Badly Drawn Boy, Starsailor, Basement Jaxx, Feeder, Ms Dynamite and Jimmy Eat World have also signed up for the project.

NME's Steve Sutherland said: "The idea is that today's top artists record a brand new version of one of their favourite number one hits of all time and, with literally hundreds of tracks to choose from, we fully anticipate that 1 Love will be a truly extraordinary and landmark album."

The project is being executive produced by Spike Stent, who is famous for his work with Madonna and Oasis.

NME is asking its readers to email their ideas for the 1 Love album.

Fans should send their name, age, address and which artist they'd like to see on the album covering which number one single from the past 50 years.
