No Stone Roses reunion, says John Squire

The Stone Roses will not be re-forming, according to former guitarist John Squire.

Persistent rumours have suggested the Manchester band may one day have a live reunion.

But Squire says it's out of the question.

He said: "I couldn't do it and not think about Spinal Tap.

"I heard that Reni's manager wanted us to play the opening of the Commonwealth Games. That was a good one."

Former Stone Roses bassist Mani has previously said the band should play live again because of the acrimonious way they split.

He said they had been offered "absolutely astounding financial incentives" to re-form.

But Squire has told NME.COM: "I've not spoken to Ian Brown for seven years. Mani, I've seen him a few times. I've not spoken to Reni since he quit."

Squire said the main problem blocking chances of the band re-forming is the breakdown of his relationship with Ian Brown. He said: "Yeah, because we wrote together, we knew each other for the longest, that hurt the deepest."

Squire's debut solo album, Time Changes Everything, will be released on September 16.
