Sir Paul's wife accuses fans of jealousy

Sir Paul McCartney’s new wife has accused his fans of jealousy over her relationship with the former Beatle.

Heather Mills McCartney said that since stepping out with Sir Paul she had faced a hostile reception.

“It’s mainly from female Beatles fans around Paul’s age. Even now, they’re jealous that I’m with everyone’s favourite Beatle,” she said.

Miss Mills McCartney, 34, is not the first woman in Sir Paul’s life to feel the wrath of his devoted fans.

When he married first wife Linda at the height of Beatlemania in 1969, distraught teenage girls spat at her, screamed and sobbed outside the register office.

In the interview with Prima magazine, Miss Mills McCartney said the age gap had no effect on her relationship with the 60-year-old star.

She said: “He’s so sweet. He’s energising _ like a kind of Peter Pan character. When you see him walking down the street, he literally skips, just like a little boy.

“In many ways, he’s definitely the youngest guy I’ve ever been out with.”

The multi-millionaire singer is totally supportive of her career as an anti-landmines campaigner, she said.

“Psychologically, I feel on an equal level with Paul. There are a million reasons why I love him, but the main one is that I’m with someone who is totally secure in who he is and doesn’t resent my work.

“We’re together seven days a week. We sit down and go through our diaries together each month and we don’t do anything if it takes us away from each other.”

Miss Mills McCartney dedicated herself to charity work after losing a leg in a motorbike accident in 1993.

“The best thing is that Paul fell in love with who I am, and he wouldn’t try to change me,” she said.

“Just as I wouldn’t dream of telling him to stop singing and painting and touring, he wouldn’t try to stop my charity work. This is what my life is about.”

Other men in her life had been resentful of the amount of time she devotes to her cause, she said.

“I’ve only had six relationship in my life. Men fall in love with who I am.

“But then they end up resenting my charity work because I can’t help giving myself totally to anything or anyone who’s in need.

“One of them said that when I go off to a war zone, they feel inadequate staying at home.”

Sir Paul has to persuade her to take time out from her tireless charity work, she said in her first major interview since the couple’s wedding on County Monaghan, Ireland, two months ago.

“Paul insists that there are times in the day when I switch the phone off. In the evening, I cook and we eat dinner together and talk, and that’s been very good for me,” she said.

* Meanwhile Sir Paul’s daughter Stella is reportedly set to marry her boyfriend Alasdhair Willis.

Willis, former publisher of style magazine Wallpaper*, is said to have proposed to the 30-year-old Gucci designer.

Neither has publicly confirmed the engagement, which was reported in a US gossip column.

But the couple were seen enjoying a drink with friends near Miss McCartney’s west London home yesterday in what many onlookers believed was an engagement celebration.

She was also photographed wearing an engagement-style ring on her wedding finger.
