Sales of cult 1970s wine Black Tower are soaring - thanks to the Big Brother housemates.

It has fuelled some of their most outrageous evenings, including Jade's infamous strip.

Sales of the wine are up 40 per cent at Somerfield and Kwik Save stores over the last two weeks.

Black Tower has become a regular item on the housemates' shopping list.

Big Brother bosses have a policy of covering up brand names, but they have been unable to prevent viewers from recognising the familiar Black Tower bottles.

A Channel 4 spokeswoman said: ''The housemates are offered any item that is available at the supermarket and they simply pick out the brands they like.''

A spokesman for Black Tower added: ''Black Tower today is very different to what it was in the 70's and clearly a new generation of wine drinkers are discovering that for themselves.''
