Media baron buys €77m Rubens

US media baron David Thomson has been named as the buyer of the £49.5m (€77m) Rubens' masterpiece, Massacre of the Innocents.

The 44-year-old is chairman of the Thomson Newspaper Group, based in Connecticut.

He outbid the Los Angeles J Paul Getty Museum to pick up the painting at Sotheby's.
