Witnness music festival kicks off in Fairyhouse

Witnness is underway in Co Meath. The first acts are performing at Fairyhouse. British band Oasis tops the bill of more than a hundred groups appearing on five stages over the next two days.

Gardai and emergency services are on standby, but warn drugs, crowd surfing and moshing are out.

Forecasters predict a break from the appalling weather. Joanna Donnelly from Met Eireann says, "we might be forgiven for thinking it was going to be horrible again today, but it's actually not so bad".

She said, "mostly dry, some good hazy sunshine and quite warm. So, mild and humid, no wind to speak of and certainly no downpours".
