Sweaty-Palmed Cleric

The fire-in-the-church episode in Emmerdale - where Zoe almost set light to both herself and the vicar - looked mighty impressive and not a little dangerous for the actors taking part.

Yet, incredibly, both Leah Bracknell and John Middleton, who play troubled Zoe and the Rev Ashley, insisted on doing all the scenes themselves.

"We did have stand-ins if we had wanted to use them," says John,. "But we just went for it - and pretended there weren't flames leaping around us.

"But it was definitely a sweaty palms job for both of us - and not only because of the heat."
