Cardinal swashbuckler comes from Belfast
Belfast-born actor Stephen Rea dons clerical garb for yet another screen version of the Alexandre Dumas swashbuckling classic, The Three Musketeers.
Titled simply The Musketeer the film, directed by Peter Hyams and co-starring Tim Roth, Catherine Deneuve and Mena Suvan, updates the great story and throws in a curious Eastern slant and changes the Dumas plotline more than somewhat.
The film has been garnering decidedly mixed reviews Stateside - 'Easily one of the worst Three Musketeers adaptations to date' - Rea, nevertheless, has been passed as better-than-average in his role of Cardinal Richelieu.
