Gardener turns gnome for new kids' show

TV gardener Alan Titchmarsh is to play a gnome in a new children’s television programme to help foster a nation of green-fingered youngsters in Britain, it was announced today.

The BBC Ground Force presenter will play a sentimental, ornamental gnome who lives in an upturned wheelbarrow with a worm called Andrew in a new animated show called Gordon Gnome.

A pilot episode, called The Smelly Wellies, has just been recorded in which 52-year-old Titchmarsh also provides voices for Gordon’s friends, Andrew the Worm, Daphne Squirrel and Morris Mole.

The former Gardener’s World frontman has also recorded the theme tune, which producers say could be released as a single.
