Winona will stand trial
The judge who has heard details of Winona Ryder's theft charges says she will stand trial.
Judge Elden S Fox says there is enough evidence for a trial and she is to go back to court next Friday.
The actress faces felony counts of grand theft, burglary, vandalism and possession of a controlled drug.
Ryder has maintained her innocence through her lawyer Mark Geragos who says he expects her to be cleared when the case goes to trial.
Witnesses say she cut sensor tags from two black designer handbags worth about €550 each.
One said: "I saw her cut the tags off both, she took scissors from her handbag."
She said Ryder then tried to remove the security sensors from a turquoise bag and a white bag.
It's claimed the actress cut her hand trying to cut the tag from the white bag leaving a brown spot of blood on the merchandise.
Police said she also had the painkiller Oxycodone, a morphine derivative, without a prescription.
She faces up to three years and eight months in prison if convicted of the charges against her.
