Sunita's voluntary departure from Big Brother has proved a huge ratings hit for Channel 4.

Producers moved Big Brother's Little Brother show from E4 to Channel 4 for the occasion.

More than 3 million viewers tuned in at 11pm to see the contestant's interview with Dermot O'Leary, according to unofficial figures.

The show, which replaced scheduled programme Daisy Daisy, meant Channel 4 easily beat BBC1's Question Time, which pulled in 2.4 million viewers.

ITV1's Night and Day had an audience of just 1 million between 11pm and midnight.

Earlier in the night, the regular Big Brother show on Channel 4 recorded its best figures yet, attracting an audience of 4.8 million.

It beat the BBC1 and ITV1 10pm news shows, which both had 4 million viewers, and a Porridge repeat on BBC2, which attracted 2.9 million.
