The young stars of ITV’s Pop Idol were celebrating today after the hit show scooped Europe’s top television honour the prestigious Golden Rose of Montreux.

The talent contest that made household names of winner Will Young and runner-up Gareth Gates scooped the top prize on a night of success for Britain at the annual television festival in Switzerland.
