Ewan McGregor admits Phantom Menace was 'flat'

Ewan McGregor has admitted he thought Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace was 'disappointing' and 'flat'.

McGregor plays the young Obi Wan Kenobi in the Star Wars series.

But he says the next film, Episode 2 - Attack of the Clones, is 'much better' and 'more reminiscent of the original three Star Wars films'.

British movie-goers will be able to make up their own minds at a series of midnight screenings when it hits cinemas on May 16.

McGregor told FilmFour: "I think one of the things about Episode I, I was slightly disappointed by was I thought it was very kind of flat.

"I think there's much more humour and there's much more colour in Episode II - Attack of the Clones. I think it's more reminiscent of the original three Star Wars films than Episode I was."

The Phantom Menace was criticised for its plot, over-reliance on computer effects and stereotypical characters.
