EastEnders' Mel to leave Walford pregnant

Melanie Owen will discover she is pregnant in her final week in EastEnders.

She will decide to try and have an abortion once she gets out of prison.

Viewers will see Tamzin Outhwaite leave the BBC1 soap for good next Friday.

She told The Sun: "Mel is feeling very sick in prison and she asks to see a doctor who gives her some more shocking news - she's pregnant.

"Mel can't believe it. Phil agrees to put up the bail and she is free, but she is still stunned.

"Dr Trueman picks Mel up from the prison and she demands that he book her in for an abortion as soon as possible. After everything she's been through with Steve, the last thing she wants right now is his child."

Outhwaite will be filming a six-part series of Army drama Red Cap for the BBC as her next project.
