Bed rest for Hurley after Caesarean

Liz Hurley will spend the next few days recovering in hospital after giving birth to her baby son Damian by Caesarean section.

The model and actress is understood to have had a Caesarean at the private Portland Hospital in central London two weeks before the baby was due.

Damian Charles was born just after midday yesterday and the star's spokeswoman said both mother and baby were "happy and healthy", adding that Hurley, 36, was delighted.

Caesareans are most often carried out when scans detect a breech birth or show that the umbilical cord is wrapped around the unborn baby's neck.

Women who have undergone the procedure typically remain in hospital for at least five days.
