Asher D could score top five hit while in jail

So Solid Crew singer Asher D could become one of the few artists to score a top five hit while in jail.

His first solo single is expected to at least reach the top 10.

The double A-side Back In The Day/Why Me? is released on May 20.

The singer, real name Ashley Walters, was sentenced to 18 months in a young offenders' institution last week.

A spokesman for HMV told NME.COM that Asher D could expect a top 10 placing, but the publicity surrounding his recent court case could propel the single even higher.

"His releases with So Solid Crew have tended to enter in the top 10 and with the added notoriety he has now, he could do even better," he said.

Asher D pleaded guilty to one count of possessing a prohibited weapon on July 30 last year.
