Rupert Everett in dangerous liaison with French TV
British actor Rupert Everett is to star in a French television remake of the film Dangerous Liaisons, it emerged today.
The 42-year-old will appear opposite actress Catherine Deneuve in the mini-series Les Liaisons Dangereuses, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
The series is based on Choderlos de Laclos’ classic 18th century novel and will begin filming this month in the south of France, Paris, Montreal and Scotland.
Actress Leelee Sobieski will play Cecile Volanges - the innocent young girl who becomes a pawn and later a participant in the Machiavellian sexual games of her elders.
Set in France in 1788, the novel is the story of the Marquise de Merteuil (Deneuve) whose ex-husband is planning to marry Cecile.
She asks her ex-lover, Vicomte de Valmont (Everett) to seduce Cecile before her wedding day.
Meanwhile Valmont has a conquest of his own in mind - Madame de Tourvel, a beautiful, married and God fearing woman.
The Marquise does not think Valmont can seduce her and tells him that if he can provide written proof of a sexual encounter with de Tourvel, she will offer him a reward - one last night with her.
The novel was previously adapted for the big screen for a French feature in 1956 and for Stephen Frears’ 1988 English-language feature which starred Glenn Close, Michelle Pfeiffer and John Malkovich.
It was also made into a teenage version Cruel Intentions starring Reese Witherspoon and her husband Ryan Phillippe.
