Your Song voted Britain's favourite Elton track

Your Song was voted the nation’s favourite Elton John track after a massive vote to draw up the list of songs for a live spectacular from New York last night.

The singer ran through 10 of the songs which fans wanted to hear after phone lines were thrown open to tens of thousands of voters for seven weeks.

Candle In The Wind had been in the lead at one stage, but the 1971 track Your Song pulled away during the week.

The song was given a recent revival when it was used as a recurring theme in Baz Luhrmann’s spectacular movie Moulin Rouge.

Sir Elton’s Greatest Hits Live concert was being beamed live from the famed nightclub Studio 54 for ITV1.

The votes prove that the oldies are the best loved, with seven of the top 10 coming from a five-year period in the 70s.

Two of the tracks were from the 80s and one from the 21st century.
