Soccer stars face fines in birthday clamping

Two Manchester United footballers drove to Brooklyn Beckham’s third birthday party yesterday only to later have their cars towed away.

Laurent Blanc and Mikael Silvestre were among colleagues of David who took their children to a special screening of Monsters Inc.

But half-way through the film the two Frenchmen rushed from the cinema to deal with their cars, which were illegally parked and clamped.

It was reported today that Blanc failed to pay a parking ticket for his Chrysler Voyager and Silvestre left his BMW X5 outside a loading gate.

The pair, reportedly on £25,000 a week, faced paying £135 to get them back.

Brooklyn’s party, hosted by parents David and Victoria, was packed with the sons and daughters of Manchester United’s finest.

Brothers Gary and Phil Neville and Paul Scholes, his wife and two children joined the party at The Film Works in Manchester.

The Beckhams hired an auditorium for the screening and guests enjoyed a meal and birthday cake.

A clown and two face painters entered the premises earlier in the afternoon.

The Beckhams arrived through a side entrance in a black four-wheel drive BMW X5 with blacked out windows and later left by the same route, avoiding waiting reporters and photographers.

A few minutes earlier Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, David May and Juan Sebastian Veron left through the front entrance.

Veron said: ‘‘It was a good film.’’

Yesterday’s party was a far more low key event than Brooklyn’s first birthday when the couple paid £10,000 (€16,000) for a bash at Cottons Hotel in Knutsford, Great Manchester.
