Moulin Rouge named top film

The Producers Guild of America gave the makers of Moulin Rouge their top prize last night at their annual awards ceremony in Los Angeles.

The zany musical set in a Paris club has also been nominated for an Oscar.

The guild movie winner has gone on to win the Academy Award for best-picture nine out of 12 times, including last year with Gladiator.

Other winners last night included: Television Drama: The West Wing. Television Comedy: Sex and the City. Television miniseries : Band of Brothers.
