McCartney announces Vegas concerts

Paul McCartney has announced a two-day concert stop in Las Vegas during his ‘‘Drivin’ USA’’ tour.

The April 5 and 6 concerts featuring the former Beatle at the MGM Grand hotel-casino’s Grand Garden Arena will replace a cancelled heavyweight boxing title fight between Mike Tyson and Lennox Lewis, hotel-casino spokesman Scott Ghertner said.

The Tyson-Lewis match, scheduled for April 6, was cancelled after the Nevada Athletic Commission denied Tyson a boxing license on January 29. That decision came a week after a brawl at a news conference held in New York to promote the fight. The match could be held elsewhere in the country or abroad.

Tickets to the McCartney show go on sale on Monday at prices of $350, $250 and $125 (€405, €289 and €145). McCartney is touring for the first time since 1993. The arena holds about 12,000 concert seats.

McCartney spokeswoman Alli Landau said 20 tour stops are planned, beginning on April 1 in Oakland, California, and ending on May 18 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
